Sometime in 2019, I started what I will certainly such as to call a knowing journey with Techlawyered It began as a system where I could share even more of my understandings from transitioning from legislation to technology. In addition to being my public understanding diary, it expanded to come to be a system where I could highlight the resilient pioneers pushing the borders of development in the African legaltech room.
I was thrilled concerning this excellent concept. I really did not care just how attractive or otherwise my layouts went to the time (many thanks to the free version of Canva and my amateur sense of anything design), I just intended to talk about the intersection in between legislation and technology, and, by doing so, abate the worries of my coworkers concerning just how modern technology or artificial intelligence was a hazard to our jobs. I also went as far as creating a pitch deck, which I showed to some good friends for feedback. This was mosting likely to be my million-dollar pitch deck to get investment in Techlawyered. (I laugh in impractical expectations)
Fast onward to 2020, and Techlawyered had broadened into a team of 3. I’m unsure why, yet Eliz’beth and Jesulayomi chose Techlawyered was something they wanted to relate to and came onboard. Having them onboard was some form of recognition for me– I had a team I can jump ideas off of, and points would make even more feeling from there, or two I really hoped. Nevertheless, this excitement faded soon sufficient, as our primary obstacle was sourcing one-of-a-kind web content. Our objective was to cover the legaltech environment via the lens of entrepreneurship, informing the tales of how legal pioneers in Africa were utilizing modern technology to bring justice closer to the people. I didn’t intend to report on typical legal information. We already had systems doing an amazing task at that. I was inspired by technologies in other markets and wanted to see similar advancements in the legal room in Africa, yet I could not identify just how to get such news, or maybe nothing was in fact taking place? Finding material to maintain a regular story was tough.
My group and I try out various layouts. Workchop conversations (where we highlighted the works of various gamers in the area– this had some grip yet was just not a sustainable style), video series like” 25 Minutes with Techlawyered, Instagram live, and Youtube recordings (where I had no control over the video clip quality of the discussions and this discouraged me from releasing them) were some of our efforts. The economic implication of having the group and paying of pocket was taking its toll on me too. On some days, I was thrilled to keep going; on other days, good sense reminded me to focus on the task that feeds me.
After a couple of shots, I decided to place Techlawyered on hold and take a while to re-evaluate how I wished to continue. I’m still in that phase, because life is occurring to me and I have not had time to stop and assume, but each day I see the requirement to talk more about the development capacity of lawful development in Africa, which makes it possible for every person to have access to justice.
Because 2020, my understanding of lawful technology has considerably broadened, with an intense concentrate on “accessibility to justice”, which I believe is a fundamental element of lawful modern technology. After all, the supreme goal of enhancing legal processes is to enhance people’s count on the justice system, and foster what the global justice community terms “people-centered justice”.
Anyhow, it’s May 25, 2023, and I had an additional “aha!” moment and determined to try this once again. I truly don’t recognize how this is mosting likely to turn out, yet the mission is clear: to support and add to the development of the lawful and justice ecosystem where it intersects with innovation in Africa.
The challenge of sourcing web content stays, possibly much more so than in the past. Nevertheless, I’m devoted to pursuing these stories of innovation within the African context. I am excited about how law, justice, and modern technology integrated, and I would love to be able to offer another shot at contributing to the development of a growing community around it.
